Bharatanatyam Performer, Choreographer, Educator

With performing arts being an integral part of Shivangee’s education and youth, she went on to study and attain a Bachelor’s degree in dance, specializing in Bharatanatyam, from Nalanda Nrityakala Mahavidhyala, (Mumbai University) which is headed by Dr. Kanak Rele. She completed her Masters in Bharatanatyam with a national scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

She exudes confidence and with a striking on stage personality, Shivangee now intensively trains under her mother and first Guru Dr. Uma Anantani. She has performed for the ‘Nritya Pratibha’ Aurangabad, India organized by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi. Shivangee has been awarded the prestigious ‘Shingar Mani’ by Sur Singar Samsad, and the ‘Nritya Shivali’ at Shivali Festival, both in Mumbai. She is also a ‘Kal-ke-Kalakar’ awardee from the Gujarat State Sangeet Natak Akademi.

She is the lead dancer and co-choreographer for all the major Rasadhwani productions including ‘Panchali-From Fire to Fire’ a 90 min dance theatrical based on the novel ‘The Palace of Illusions’ by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and has performed at various national and international platforms with the support of Govt. of Gujarat, Dept of Culture. She has also performed for the Govt. of Gujarat events like ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ and ‘Rannotsav’ etcetera.

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi has Shivangee as their Empanelled Artiste. She has performed for the ICCR HORIZON SERIES at Ahmedabad and Bangalore and also at the ‘India Festival’ in Russia under the aegis of ICCR.

She has performed variously in diverse research-based productions like Geeta-Govindam (duet with Shri Vaibhav Arekar), ‘Significance of Spirituality in Indian Classical Dance’, Sri Aurobindo’s Savitri, ‘Astanayika in the bhakti songs of Kavi Narsinh Mehta’, ‘Vishvodbhavam’- excerpts from the Purusha sukta; tat sat, Kundalini Shakti, and Shodashopachara - the 16 temple rituals.

She has performed at Modhera Dance Festival (Ahmedabad), Natyanjali Festival (Chidambaram), India Habitat Centre, New Delhi and many more such prestigious platforms.

With a desire to be a performer as well as an academician, she cleared the national level NET-UGC test. She imparts dance education at diploma and degree levels at Rasadhwani as also at various other institutions, conducts lecture demonstrations, and serves as an academic counselor for IGNOU Open University for their certificate courses in Bharatanatyam.
